AIDS: To synthesize a substance that blocks


MILAN, 29 (ANSA) - A team of Italian, English and French synthesized a molecule that blocks the transmission of AIDS virus in people and therefore may prevent the infection from spreading, it was announced today.
The molecule was developed by researchers at the University of Milan (Italy), Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), Seville (Spain) and the Institute of Structural Biology (IBS), Grenoble (France).
The molecule is similar to sugars on the surface of the AIDS virus and is recognized by a "protein" receptor "of the human immune system. With this, the "sentinels of immunity" are attached to the molecule and prevent the virus penetrates mucous membranes of the body.
The three centers that developed the molecule as a European patent registered. DAB
